Buffalo Bills Should Still Look At Signing One Free Agent

The Buffalo Bills have gone through a wild rollercoaster of an NFL offseason. Obviously, the biggest move that was made was the trade sending star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. They have made plenty of other moves as well, but that one move has changed everything about the Bills.

For years, Diggs have provided star quarterback Josh Allen with a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver. Now, there are questions about the position for Buffalo.

Along with the departure of Diggs, the Bills also lost Gabriel Davis in free agency. Losing their top two wide receivers from last season could be tough to recover from.

Thankfully, the Bills were able to snag Keon Coleman in the 2024 NFL Draft. After the draft, they signed former Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. They also brought in Curtis Samuel.

While they have made some moves at the wide receiver position to make up for their losses, the Bills should still consider making one more move. There is a specific free agent that they should sign.

Bleacher Report has suggested that the Bills should consider signing free agent wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. He would add speed, playmaking, and experience.

Most know that Hardman played the role of Super Bowl hero for the Chiefs last season, catching the game-winning touchdown from Patrick Mahomes.

Why should the Bills look to sign Hardman? Quite honestly, they need more proven players at wide receiver. Even Coleman, as talented as he appears to be, is far from a guarantee or known quantity.

Last season with the Chiefs, Hardman ended up catching just 15 passes for 124 yards. He started the season with the New York Jets, but that didn’t work out for either side. At the NFL trade deadline, he was moved back to Kansas City, where he had played his entire career previous to signing with the Jets.

With the Bills, no one would be expecting him to be a star. He wouldn’t be a No. 1 option for Allen either. However, he could provide some playmaking from time to time and a player who can run short routes and turn them into big gains.

Hardman is just 26 years old and has never been given a sizable role in an offense. That doesn’t mean that he would simply be a depth addition for the Bills. He has simply been on teams where there was a ton of talent ahead of him on the depth chart.

Looking at the Bills’ current wide receiver corps, it seems possible that Hardman can work his way up to the No. 3 role. If he received that kind of role, he could put together a major breakout season.

All of that being said, signing Hardman would be a low-cost, low-risk, and high-reward type of signing. Those are the kinds of moves that the Buffalo Bills need to consider making in order to withstand losing both Diggs and Davis this offseason.
